Julian Barry

Julian Barry ( born December 24, 1930 in Riverdale, New York ) is an American novelist and screenwriter who became internationally known for his work on movies such as Lenny or people on the river.

Life and career

Julian Barry, born in 1930 in Riverdale, New York, played in his youth saxophone for a high school band and went to jazz clubs in New York City. After high school, Barry attended Syracuse University in New York, where he studied the subject drama. During the Korean War he was drafted into the Army and served until 1953. After his military service, he worked first as an actor and stage manager for Broadway productions, the mid-1960s he was involved in addition to his acting work as a writer and was also in the movie business in addition, as Writer working. In 1966 he wrote a series for the popular American spy series Mission: Impossible take.

Originally Barry 1969, Columbia Pictures hired to write a screenplay for Lenny as a romantic love story. The written by Barry play Lenny, however, the was based on a biography of Lenny Bruce, was only a dramatic stage play and built between May 1971 and June 1972 453mal brought to the stage, the actor Cliff Gorman was awarded in 1972 for the title role of a Tony Award. The film was nominated for six Oscars in 1975, including Julian Barry also received a nomination for best adapted screenplay. In 1978, he worked in the background on the script for Irvin Kershners film Eyes of Laura Mars, where his wife Laura Ziskin was involved as a producer. In 1984 he wrote for director Mark Rydell the screenplay for the movie people on the river, a drama starring Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek. In 1992 his most latest screenplay to Pablo Ferro's comedy Me, Myself and I with JoBeth Williams and George Segal was born.

In 1978 he had married the film producer Laura Ziskin and moved with her to Connecticut to raise his three children there from his previous marriage to Sheila Ann Shulman. Together they have one child. The couple divorced later.
