History

Nucleus of the present-day village was the little hamlet Loopuyt in the polder 'Het Koegras "whose inhabitants lived from agriculture and animal husbandry. When he attained the status of an independent village in 1909 by the erection of a church, this is named with the permission of the Dutch royal family after the same year born Crown Princess and later Queen Juliana.

In the past 100 years since Julianadorp has experienced a considerable increase in population and settlement area. Jointly responsible for this was the emergence of new branches of industry, especially the cultivation of flower bulbs, and up to now expanding tourism industry. In recent decades, extensive new residential areas were created in addition to numerous holiday parks. Among the newcomers are many people who work in the center of Den Helder, or even in the more southern conurbation Randstad. The population of Julianadorp was in early 2006 at 13,925.

Despite this growth, the city lost its independence through the incorporation to Den Helder. Almost all the major infrastructure facilities like railway station, hospital or secondary schools are located in the good five kilometers north port city. The transport connection there is given mainly by the coastal N 502 to the west and parallel to the Noordhollandsch Kanaal running N 9 in the east. On both routes, and regular bus; more lines connect Julianadorp with southern cities of Alkmaar and Schagen.

The beach near the district Julianadorp aan Zee has changed its appearance in recent years by newly built holiday home parks, apartment complexes and the associated infrastructure. The number of overnight stays per year now stands at around 900,000. An essential part of bathers comes from Germany.
