Julie Kent (dancer)

Julie Kent Cox ( born July 11, 1969 in Bethesda, Maryland) is an American ballet dancer.

Kent began her dance training at the Ballet Academy of Maryland. She continued to participate in a summer workshop with the Youth Company of American Ballet Theatre and attended the School of American Ballet. In 1985, she joined the American Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 1986 she became a member of the corps de ballet. The appointment as principal dancer took place in 1993.

Kent's repertoire includes the lead roles of the great classical ballets as well as contemporary works. Many choreographers have specially written for her choreography.

In 2000, Kent played the role of Kathleen Donahue in the U.S. ballet movie Center Stage.
