Julien De Smedt

Julien De Smedt ( born December 3, 1975 in Brussels ) is a Belgian- Danish architect. Since 2006 he leads the architecture firm Julien De Smedt Architects ( JDS ) with offices in Copenhagen, Brussels and Oslo. JDS is a multidisciplinary office for architecture, urban planning and design.

Biography

After studying architecture in Brussels, Paris, Los Angeles and London, De Smedt made ​​2000 his diploma at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. He then worked in Rotterdam for OMA and Rem Koolhaas, where he met Bjarke Ingels.

In 2001 he founded with Ingels, the architectural firm PLOT in Copenhagen. Despite the success of the collaboration with Bjarke Ingels parted their ways in 2006, and De Smedt founded JDS, also based in Copenhagen. JDS won in 2007 with the contribution to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo the first major competition as a separate office.
