Julius Victor Berger

Julius Victor Berger ( born July 20, 1850 in Neutitschein, Moravia, † November 17, 1902 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter who is best known for his genre paintings and his portraits.

Life

Julius Victor Berger was a son of the holy picture painter Ignaz Johann Berger. He has appeared with 14 years in the Vienna Academy of Art. 1874 travel scholarship was granted to him, which allowed him three years to study art in Rome. After his return to Vienna he shared the apartment for a short time with the fellow painter Emil Jakob Schindler and his wife Anna Sofie nee mountains. While a cure Schindler Berger began an affair with his wife Anna, which spawned a child. She is the half sister of Alma Mahler -Werfel.

1881 Julius Victor Berger Professor of dektorative painting at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. 1887 was followed by a professorship at the Vienna Academy of Art. Among his friends was one of Hans Makart.

The main work of Berger applies the large ceiling painting in Room XIX of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.

He is buried in a grave of honor in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 14 A, number 8).
