Junior athletics

Junior is an age class in sports. They referred to in many sports athletes aged 16 to 18 years. The vintage, not the completed year of age is most crucial for the move up to a higher age group.

In many sports corresponds to the junior class of the international category U19, which includes all athletes who are younger than 19 years because of their birth cohort, but not the U17 class (in some sports, such as in cycling, also known as Youth, formerly B- Youth referred to ) of the athletes under 17 years belong.

For juniors both separate German Championships as well as World and European Championships are held.

Juniors in the sport of fencing

In fencing the juniors have the ages of 17 and 19 years.

Juniors in athletics

In athletics, according to the rules of the International Athletics Association belong to IAAF athletes who are on 31 December of the competition year 18 or 19 years old. According to the rules of the German Athletics Federation ( DLV) Juniors are athletes who are 20-22 years old.

The IAAF leads 53 Junior World Records, 26 for men and 27 for women.

Juniors in cycling

In cycling, the junior class of the international category U19 corresponds to (see above). The designations Junior and U19 have succeeded in cycling in the 80s the old designation A- youth. This age classification is made in Germany by the German Cycling Federation ( BDR), in the international context of the UCI. See also driver categories in cycling.

As a junior, the player / student is referred to in the American college sports, which is located in the third Spiel-/Studienjahr.
