Juozas Imbrasas

Juozas Imbrasas ( born January 8, 1941 in Algirdai, County Ukmergė ) is a Lithuanian politician. He was from June 1999 to April 2000 and again from 16 April 2007 to February 11, 2009 the mayor of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. He belongs to the party of law and order ( Tvarka ir teisingumas ).

Biography

Study, career

Juozas Imbrasas finished in 1967 his studies in civil engineering at the Vilnius branch of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (now Kaunas University of Technology ), where he subsequently spent three years as a research associate. After working in various construction company he joined in 1972 in the State Administration, where he was a senior engineer in the logistics department of state building authorities initially ( until 1986 ), the Forest and Paper Industry Department (until 1994) operates. 1995-1997 he headed the municipal housing management company " UAB Naujamieščio Busta " in Vilnius.

Policy

Juozas Imbrasas was from 1995 a member of the Conservative Party homeland Federation ( Tėvynės Sąjunga ) for which he served as deputy mayor of Vilnius since 1997. In June 1999, he was a successor to the Prime Minister of Lithuania proclaimed party colleagues Rolandas Paksas briefly mayor of Vilnius. After the local elections of 2007, the Tvarka ir teisingumas took over in a coalition with the Social Democrats and the Polish Electoral Action for power in the capital. Because the chairman of the Tvarka ir teisingumas, Rolandas Paksas, since his ouster, the exercise of public office is prohibited as president, Imbrasas was elected on 16 April 2007 as the new mayor. On 8 February 2009, however, the opposition ( Conservative and Liberal ) announced that they vote out with the support of the Social Democrats and the mayor because of mismanagement and wanted to choose his place Vilius Navickas mayor. This election took place on 10 February 2009 with 29 of 51 votes on a boycott of the hitherto ruling parties of the law and order and the Polish Electoral Action session. After initial resistance Imbrasas surrendered on 12 February, the presidency to Navickas, the election but immediately challenged in court. The application for an injunction was discarded and explains the choice of Navickas on 25 May 2009 in the first instance by the District Administrative Court to be lawful.

In the elections to the European Parliament in June 2009 Juozas Imbrasas received as one of two mandatories of the party " Tvarka ir teisingumas " a seat in the European Parliament.

Deputy is Imbrasas in the Committee on Regional Development and the Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula.
