Juraj Hromkovič

Juraj Hromkovic ( born August 24, 1958 in Bratislava) is a Slovak scientist and professor at the ETH Zurich. He is the author of numerous monographs and scientific publications in the field of algorithms, complexity theory, and randomization.

Biography

Hromkovic studied at the Comenius University, where he ( Dr. rer nat. . ) In 1986 obtained his doctorate in 1989 Habilitation ( Theoretical Cybernetics and Mathematical Informatics ) and from 1989 to 1990 worked as a lecturer. From 1989 to 1994 he was a visiting professor at the Department of Burkhard Monien at the University of Paderborn. In 1994 he was appointed professor at the computer science institute of the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel. 1997 to 2003 he was Chair 1 computer science at RWTH Aachen University. Since 2004 he is professor at the ETH Zurich for Information Technology and Education.

In addition to active research in various fields of theoretical computer science ( 170 publications), a focus of his work lies in teaching the fundamentals of computer science to students. Since 2001 Hromkovic is a member of the Slovak Academic Society and he is since 2010 member of the Academia Europaea.
