Jürgen Kretschmer

Jürgen Kretschmer ( born December 4, 1947 in Zeitz ) is a former German canoeist, who took the canoe slalom for the German Democratic Republic.

Kretschmer started for the SC DHfK Leipzig, together with Klaus Trummer he was in 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1973 DDR champion two - Canadians, 1974 and 1975 were the two runners-up. At the World Championships in 1971 in Merano Trummer / Kretschmer won before Rolf -Dieter Amend and Walter Hofmann and the third DDR boat with Uwe Franz and Ulrich Opelt; the team won the World Cup DDR driver also.

At the 1972 Olympic Games Olympic competitions were held in the canoe slalom for the first time. On the Augsburg Eiskanal Amend and Hofmann winning ahead of Hans -Otto Schumacher and Wilhelm building of the Federal Republic of Germany and the French brothers Olry Trummer and Kretschmer finished fourth.

1973 occupied Trummer / Kretschmer at the World Championships in Muotathal second place behind Jiri Krejza and Jaroslav pollert from Czechoslovakia; the team score won the West German canoeists before Czechoslovakia, the team from the GDR received the bronze medal. Two years later at the World Championships in Skopje won Trummer and Kretschmer the world title, as in 1971 they won in the individual and in the team competition.
