Jürgen Kühling

Jürgen Kühling (* April 27, 1934 in Osnabrück ) is a German jurist. He was from 1989 to 2001 Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court.

Kühling studied law at the Universities of Freiburg, Göttingen, Munich and Rome. After his studies and doctorate Kühling was initially from 1965 to 1966 in the legal department of Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg worked before he struck the judges career and judge at the Administrative Court in Hanover. After a period of secondment as a research assistant at the Federal Administrative Court, he was appointed to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice in 1972. 1979 Kühling was appointed a judge of the Federal Administrative Court.

1989 Kühling was elected on the proposal of the SPD as a judge of the Constitutional Court, where he dealt primarily with the constitutional implications of labor law. Kühling was a member of the first Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court and retired in 2001 at his own request shortly before the expiry of the twelve -year term from office. He wrote rapporteur among others, the judgment to rest from labor relations in the public service on the basis of the Unification Treaty for prohibition of night work for women, discrimination of women in settings, for short-time allowance for regional strikes and pension entitlements in the public service.

Jürgen Kühling, member of the SPD, is currently working as a lawyer in Hamburg. He is married and has two children.
