Called The Indian Lungenkraut ( Justicia Adhatoda ), also Adhatoda plant, Malabarnuss or Vasica, is a plant that belongs to the family Acanthaceae ( Acanthaceae ).

The original home is the Himalayan region of northern India. Today, this plant is available worldwide in the plant trade.

Description

The Indian lung herb grows achieved meters as well-branched, evergreen, small shrub, the plant height up to 2 (rarely 2.5 ). The branches are more or less square. The simple leaves are usually 1.5 to 3.5 ( 1 to 4.5 ) cm long stalks. The leaf blade is about 10 to 20 cm long and 3.5 to 8 cm wide.

The terminal or axillary, aged men inflorescences up to 10 cm long and 2.5 to 3 cm wide. The hairy, foliage leaf-like bracts are 1.5 to 2.5 in length and 1 to 1.5 ( 0.8 to 1.8 ) wide. The only short -stalked zygomorphic, hermaphrodite, five petals are about 3 cm long. The five sepals are fused; the cup lobes are 6 to 10 mm long and approximately 2 mm wide. The five white to violet petals are fused into a 2.1 to 5.1 cm long tube. The crown is two-lipped; the upper lip is erect with two short corolla lobes and the lower lip is three-lobed. There are only two fertile stamens available with 1 to 1.5 cm long stamens. The ovary is about 3 mm long. The stylus is 2 to 2.5 mm long.

The stalked, about 2.5 cm long, hairy fruit capsule contains only four seeds. The seeds have a diameter of 2 to 3 mm.

Use

From the leaves of an insecticide can be obtained.

Curative effect

This plant was used 3000 years ago in the treatment of tuberculosis and asthma. The active ingredients expand the bronchi and expectorant. Modern medicine uses the active ingredients of this plant also against hay fever. The natural extract acts as a broad-spectrum anti-allergic. Also, it is against excessive bleeding (eg nosebleeds ), hepatitis, fever and eye inflammations.

In homeopathy, the remedy is prepared from the leaves and used for hay fever.
