Justin Ahomadégbé-Tomêtin

Justin Ahomadegbé - Tomêtin ( born January 16, 1917 in Abomey, † March 8, 2002 in Cotonou ) in 1972 was president of Dahomey, now Benin.

Life

Ahomadegbé - Tomêtin studied dentistry in Dakar. After Rassemblement Démocratique Africain founding of the Party ( RDA) in 1945, he founded the National Association for the time French Dahomey. 1959 to 1960 he was President of the Parliament of the country. After independence on 1 August 1960, he was in opposition to the first President Hubert Maga Coutoucou.

After his resignation in October 1963 he became Prime Minister and Vice President. As president - Sourou Migan Apithy was overthrown on 27 November 1965 by General Christophe Soglo, ended his term in office. Later he became a judge of the Supreme Court and under the new Constitution of 1970, he took over on May 7, 1972, the president, in which the three members of the Presidency should alternate. Already on 26 October 1972, he was overthrown and imprisoned by another military coup led by Mathieu Kérékou.
