Juventius of Pavia

Juventius was a legendary former Bishop of Pavia. His historicity and chronology are uncertain, it may be too set in the 4th century.

Juventius is brought by the legend of the Holy Hermagoras in conjunction, which is said to have been a disciple of Peter and then the first bishop of Aquileia, where he is said to have suffered martyrdom by 70 - Hermagoras actually lived, however, probably only the 3rd and 4th century and it is here a later early date in order to construct a more venerable age and a direct connection to the apostles for the Patriarchate of Aquileia. Hermagoras have now sent the Holy Syrus and Juventius to Pavia, where Syrus assumed the office of bishop and Juventius had been sent to Milan, that he may assist the persecuted Christians there. Later Juventius had returned to Pavia, where became a deacon, and was determined by Syrus his successor as bishop, what Juventius have only accepted reluctantly. He is said to have then acted as bishop numerous miracles; he is said to have about a storm calmed by his prayer, after which many people are said to have been converted; also he had foiled an attack by the governor Porphyry on him, the him had wanted to arrest. The Holy Syrus appeared to him in a dream Then later, who had announced that he would die three days later, which was then also arrived on Easter Sunday.

While the legend dated these events in the 1st century, the death of Syrus is now set more around the year 370. However, its immediate successor was probably a Pompey. His successor, in turn, was a Enventius which is possibly identical with Juventius and for which one has invented later to connect to Hermagoras. Commemoration of the Holy is February 8, February 12, is thought him together with Syrus.
