KA (also: Köhntarkösz Anteria ) is the ninth studio album by the French Zeuhl band Magma. It was published in 2004.

Background

Work on " KA" began already in the 1970s, some musical themes can be found on live recordings from this period. Over the following decades, the three-part piece was repeatedly changed and expanded.

In the context of the myth ' of Kobaïa that tells the band in their discography, is " KA " is the second part of the " Köhntarkösz " trilogy, the albums " Köhntarkösz " (1974), " KA" ( 2004) and " Ëmëhntëhtt - Rê " includes and describes the connection between the kobaïanischen people and ancient Egypt. It tells the history of the album " Köhntarkösz " and is therefore to be regarded as its prequel.

Content

The album begins with choral praise of the protagonist, a modern archaeologist who discovered the grave of Ëmëhntëhtt - Rê and there receives visions. The voices are predicting that he would even be a prophet ( Köhntarkösz ), currently still asleep and have not yet realized its importance in the human race. The last part, originally consisting of the parts "Om Zanka " and "Gamma Anteria " ( individually first heard in 1976 on the live album " Inédits " ), treated a youth vision of the future Köhntarkösz in which he travels to a new city and with joyful Hallelujah call is welcomed. It leads him to Ëmëhntëhtt -RES grave where a mysterious male voice welcomes him and urges him to enter. At this point the album " Köhntarkösz " begins.

Style and reception

" KA " is like his previous albums in Christian Vander musical heroes Carl Orff and John Coltrane held Zeuhl -influenced style.

On the Baby Blue Pages, the album received 12.8 out of 15 points. Udo Gerhards wrote:

" Compositionally is " KA " got quite varied and in some passages - for magma ratios - downright cheerful and reminds therefore to occasionally Wurdah ITAH. In extravagant undulations stress is relieved, and again. In some almost jazzy choral harmonies on top of that Offering have left traces. The crowding - intensive, ecstatic, repetitive, explosive, of Zeuhl disciples so beloved Magma sound (including polymetric ) fires after a long, relaxed but still -voltage generating flowing part with synthesizer solo finally the grand finale of " KA III " on the listener. And should exactly when the big OHRgasmus should come, the pace is scaled back and the album ends differently than you expect after the previous ecstatic excesses with a slightly threatening note. "

François Couture wrote on Allmusic:

"Because it goes beyond what used to be magma without lessening the impact of what the music used to be, KA stands as one of the biggest surprises of 2004 and a must -have for fans and newcomers alike. "

"Because it goes beyond what Magma has always been, without lowering the impact of what the music was always, KA represents one of the biggest surprises of 2004 and a must-buy for fans and new discoverers alike dar. "
