Kabarega of Bunyoro

Chwa II Kabalega (or Kabarega; * 1853, † 1923 in Jinja, Uganda ) was from 1869 to 1898 the king ( Omukama ) of Bunyoro kingdom in present-day Uganda. His Residenzort has long been Mparo.

He ascended the throne of Bunyoro in 1869. Soon he marched into the kingdom of Toro one under the Omukama Nyaika Kasunga. In 1873 he lost during a rebellion at times the throne, but could regain it in the same year.

In the 1890s, he began armed resistance against the British to afford to win the increasingly tried to influence and wanted to establish a protectorate over Uganda. After a long struggle subject Bunyoro, and Kabalega lost his throne on 3 April 1898. He was arrested on April 9, 1899, as sent Mwanga II of Buganda exiled to the Seychelles. He was until 1923 to return back to Bunyoro, but died just before he reached the border of his native kingdom.
