Kaimanawa Range

P1f1p3p5

The Kaimanawa Range ( or Kaimanawa Ranges) are centrally located on the North Island of New Zealand. It borders in the north on the western parts of the Kaweka Range and extend from the south end of Lake Taupo about 50 km to the Ruahine Range in the south.

By the three volcanoes Mount Ruapehu, Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Tongariro, shielded from the rain, the northern area is so poor in precipitation that the State Highway 1 there " desert road " and the area Rangipo Desert is called.

The more southern areas of the Kaimanawa Range are less inhospitable; large parts of the landscape are privately owned, which is not typical for New Zealand mountains.
