The Kalixälven (also Kalix älv ) is a North Swedish river, which flows from the Scandinavian Mountains in the Gulf of Bothnia.

The main source of the river Kalixälven forms of Visttasjohka. This springs from the north of the Kebnekaise massif near the Alesjaure and flows in a southeasterly direction to Paittasjärvi. This belongs to a lake system, which is drained by the Kalixälven. The Kalixälven has a total length of 450 kilometers. Its catchment area covers about 18,000 km ². At the headwaters, there are some larger lakes (such as Paittasjärvi, Kaalasjärvi and Kaitumjaure ) and waterfalls (such as Linafallet and Jockfallet ). The Kalixälven opens in Kalix in the Gulf of Bothnia. The average discharge ( MQ ) is 290 m³ / s

The Kalixälven is the longest natural flow of Sweden. Important tributaries coming from the right are Kaitumälven and Ängesån. From left opens the Tärendö älv generated at a Flussbifurkation the Torne River, in the Kalixälven.
