Kálmán Darányi

Kálmán Darányi Puszta center György and Tetétlen [ ka ː lma ː n ː dɒra ɲi ] ( born March 22, 1886 in Budapest, † November 1, 1939 same place ) was a Hungarian statesman and Prime Minister of 1936 until 1938.

Life

After graduating from law school in 1909 Darányi began a career in internal administration. After the end of the First World War, he took part in the suppression of the short-lived Communist government of Hungary and in 1927 he was elected as a member of the Unity Party in parliament. In 1935, he became Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet of Gyula Gombos. He followed Gombos after his death on 10 October 1936 as prime minister. He continued the foreign policy of his predecessor and leaned closely against Hitler and Mussolini. Inside, he suppressed the press, extended the rights of the central government and carried out the first reprisals against Jews.

On May 13, 1938 Darányi abdicated, by which he yielded to the increasing pressure of the extreme right, and was President of the Parliament.
