Kálmán Markovits

Count Kálmán Markovits of Spizza and Kisterpest ( born August 26, 1931 in Budapest, † 5 December 2009) was a Hungarian water polo player.

He was with the Hungarian water polo team in 1952 and 1956 Olympic champion and won bronze at the Games in 1960. 1954, 1958 and 1962 Markovits became European Champion with the Hungarian team. After 1956, the Hungarian national uprising was brutally suppressed, Markovits was one of five players who returned to the Olympics in 1956 immediately after Hungary. In total he played 132 international matches for Hungary.

After his playing career Kálmán Markovits worked as a coach. 1981 brought CN Barcelona under his leadership the Supercup. In 1994 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.

His son László Markovits participated in three Summer Olympics as a professional tennis player.
