Kalmius at Sartana
Kalmius (Ukrainian Кальміус; Russian Кальмиус ) is a ostukrainischer river.
It rises in the city Jassynuwata, north of Donetsk, and ends in Mariupol in the Sea of Azov. In Mariupol Kaltschyk the right meets the Kalmius. Within the urban area of the Donetsk Kalmius is dammed to form an elongated lake, which is important for the microclimate of these lying in the steppe large industrial metropolis. The Kalmius has a length of 209 km and drains an area of 5070 km ². The average discharge of 6.23 m³ / s
Earlier, the river was also called Kalka. The Battle of the Kalka in 1223 took place near the river.
