Kamenica nad Cirochou

Kamenica nad Cirochou ( until 1927 slovak " Kamenica "; Hungarian Nagykemence ) is 2,300 inhabitants according to the district town Humenné the largest municipality in Okres Humenné in eastern Slovakia.

The municipality is located in the east of Humenné intensively farmed Cirocha Valley. South-east rises the Vihorlatgebirge ( Vihorlatské Hills ) with the eponymous 1076 m high Vihorlat. Part of the district Kamenicas belongs to a closed military zone, comprising the entire western part of the mountain. For here in 1937 applied Truppenübungsplatz ( Vojenský obvod Valaškovce ) the then 49 houses counting Valaškovce community was razed.

The Highway 74 Humenné Snina about the Ukrainian border (transition Ubľa ) performs Kamenica nad Cirochou, as well as the parallel railway line Humenné - Snina - Stakčín. Due to the convenient transport to commute many community residents in the nearby industrial city Humenné.

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1451. The church was built in 1782.

In Kamenica nad Cirochou live almost exclusively Slovaks. 92 % of the population profess the Roman Catholic Church, 5% Greek Catholic Christians.
