Kampen, Norway

Kampen is a district area in Oslo between Tøyen, Hasle, Vålerenga and Galgeberg in Gamle Oslo.

History

In the 18th century militiamen kept their exercises in that particular area. The area belonged to the court Bergløkken and Oslo Ladegård until it was divided in 1820. Between 1859 and 1878 a Siedling of wooden houses was built. Some houses burned down in 1879 and were subsequently replaced by stone buildings. The old wooden houses are still characteristic of this settlement. In Brinken historic buildings were demolished in the 1980s, which was very controversial.

On April 13 to 14 where street battles between workers, police and military occurred.

In the 1920s, many Communists lived in Kampen, that then the place was nicknamed " Petrograd ".
