Kanacea

Kanacea [ kanaðea ], also Kanathea, [Note 1] is a volcanic island in the Pacific Lau archipelago. Politically, it is part of the Eastern Division of the island nation Fiji.

Geography

Kanacea located in the Northern Lau Group of Islands, 14 km west of Vanua Balavu, the second largest island of the archipelago and 15 km north of Mago. The nearly circular island is 4.5 km long and up to 4 km wide. It has an area of ​​13 km ² and reaches a height of 259 meters above the sea. The island is almost completely surrounded by a coral reef that extends far to the north-east almost to Vanua Balavu. Kanacea is inhabited privately owned and not permanent, however, in the northeast of the island exist plantation buildings for the coconut harvest, accommodation and a school.
