Life

Kang Sok - kyong was born in 1951 in the city of Daegu and studied sculpture at the Ewha Womans University.

In 1974 she got her first works for the root ( KUN) and Open Game ( Opŭn germ ) the " Munhak Sasang " ( Literary Thought) Prize for debutants. Since then she has written works, in which the figures are characterized subtle. The protagonists suffer from their living conditions that make it impossible for them to find the truth in life. Therefore, the figures make the search for redemption.

To date, the author has published seven collections of short stories and novels. The blue time, The night and the cradle, The room in the forest, the valley near, The stars in the sky over Lhasa, The deep staircase in me, The rice grain small Buddha and two volumes of essays report of a trip to India and The Way to the barrows. Rails are also an anthology about the interviews she has conducted with some artists, under the title of the end of work artist and a book of fairy tales for adults: Toto, who went to India.

If a woman who has studied sculpture, nevertheless opts for the literary world, she would have had a special incentive. "But no, it was just a coincidence ," she says. Before that, she would never have had the dream of becoming a writer. In the fourth year at the University she knew because of the bankruptcy of her father does not know how to raise the tuition fees. They became aware of the literary competition By coincidence, which was announced by the university newspaper and took part in it. That was the beginning of her literary career. Those who have recorded their debut positive, were delighted with this happy coincidence. Since then she has published works in which the characters such as their favorite authors, Pak Kyong -ni, Hong Myeong -hi and Dostoevsky deal with the serious side of life, the dignity of women and mental conflicts. Although she moved from the visual arts in the literature, but still deals with the same question she has faced since the study of sculpture: What are artists or what is art?

The will to weed out the trivialities of everyday life and just stand in front of the essence, is a theme that runs through all her writings like a red thread. " The sculpture reduces the design to the essentials. The modeling with clay also. It brings sound to a character and must remove him at the same time. [ ... ] When I write, I keep thinking, what words shall I paint. It may be a habit that I have unconsciously learned in the modeling. Everything has to be necessary, so I always have to remove the odd part. Whether literature or sculpture, when it comes to express something that they are identical. Nevertheless, literature can be expressed more concretely with the medium of language as a sculpture. "

The writer, addicted to traveling and books that bring them to enlightenment, hoping to be able to a novel about the utopia, the eternal dream of the people write, in a village community in South India.
