Karaikkudi (Tamil: காரைக்குடி Kāraikkuṭi [ ka ː ː ɾɛi̯k uɖi ]; well Karaikudi ) is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The population is around 107,000 ( 2011 census ).

Karaikkudi located in the Sivaganga district in southern Tamil Nadu, 85 km east of Madurai and 92 kilometers south of Tiruchirappalli. The distance to Chennai, the capital of the state, is 426 kilometers. Karaikkudi is the capital of the eponymous taluks (sub - district ). Even before the district capital of Sivaganga Karaikkudi is the largest city in Sivaganga district. Due to the location of National Highway 210 runs from Tiruchirappalli to Ramanathapuram. From Karaikkudi train station with daily connections to Chennai and Rameswaram Tiruchirappalli.

The city is the capital of Karaikkudi Chettinad region. Chettinad is the home of the merchant caste of Nattukottai Chettiar, who brought it to considerable wealth during the British colonial period in the 19th century in Southeast Asia. In their Heimarorten the Chettiar merchants built with the newly acquired money opulent estate. Also be found in many of these Karaikkudi Chettinad estate.
