Karakalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

The Karakalpakische ASSR ( Karakalpakische Soviet Socialist Republic ) was an autonomous Soviet republic in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union. It existed from 1932 until 1991. Was the capital Nukus. In the 165,600 -square-kilometer, rural steppe and desert area about 1.4 million people.

From 1919 to 1924 belonged to the north of the region with the Kyrgyz ASSR, after which the region was as Karakalpakische Autonomous Oblast autonomous region and was on 20 March 1932 as Karakalpakische Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ASSR part of the RSFSR. On 5 December 1936, the area was again part of the Uzbek SSR. Since 1991, the region is a part Karakalpakische Republic of Uzbekistan.
