Karel PilaÅ™

Karel Pilař ( born December 23, 1977 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech professional ice hockey player who was most recently at the Donbass Donetsk HK in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Karel Pilař began his career as a hockey player with the HC Litvinov, for which he was active from 1999 to 2001 in the Czech Extraliga. He was then in the second round selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 when a total of 39 players from the Toronto Maple Leafs, for whom he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2001/ 02 season. In his rookie year, the defender scored in 34 games to score and gave seven assists. Mostly, however, he played for the farm team of the American Hockey League, the St. John 's Maple Leafs. In the following two years, the right-handed shooter was again parallel to the Maple Leafs and their farm team on the ice, where he in 2003/04 season in 51 games scored 20 points scorer in his first full season in the NHL.

After three years in North America in 2004 Pilař returned back to his Czech homeland in which he for the HC Sparta Prague aground in the Extraliga 2004-2006. With the Brussels residents of the 2001 world champion won in the 2005/06 season for the first time the Czech Championship. In the following season, he missed again as in previous years due to heart problems, a lot of the games. August 8, 2007 Pilař received as a free agent contract with the Atlanta Thrashers. By the end of the season, the Czech ran exclusively for Atlanta's AHL farm team, the Chicago Wolves, with which he won the Calder Cup. The 2008/09 season he started at HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League, in 24 games for which he scored a goal and had five assists. Then he again returned to HC Sparta Prague, for whom he played until the end of the season.

In October 2009, he returned to his home club back to Litvinov. About the HK CSKA Moscow, for he graduated from the 2010/11 season, he came in July 2011 for the KHL rookie HC Lev Poprad, in which he received a sample contract.

In late summer and autumn of 2012 he played for HK Donbass Donetsk in the KHL, before he was released in November 2012.

Internationally

For Pilař Czech Republic took part in the 2001 World Championships, in which he became world champion with his team.
