2001 NHL Entry Draft

The NHL Entry Draft in 2001, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, was held at the National Car Rental Center in the U.S. state of Florida in Sunrise on 23 and 24 June 2001.

A total of 289 players were taken in nine rounds. The Scouts had the players well assessed in advance and so the two players were chosen first with Ilya Kovalchuk and Jason Spezza, who should later develop the best players in their team. In the later rounds of the New York Rangers landed in the sixth round with Marek Židlický and the St. Louis Blues in the eighth round Petr Čajánek still each have a stroke of luck. Were particularly in demand again this year players from the German-speaking countries. Two Austrians, five Swiss German and seven were selected by the NHL franchises.
