History

The Hockey Division of amateur sports club Töölön Vesa was deeply in debt and was disbanded in 1967. Aimo Mäkinen took the opportunity and founded on the basis of existing structures, a semi-professional sports clubs, including the junior teams and the right to start in the second highest Finnish league, the Suomi- sarja.

Jokerit was officially founded on October 27, 1967 during a constituent meeting. The sole owner, Aimo Mäkinen, was also a board and CEO of the new club. The club logo, a zwinkernder Jester, emerged from jokers of various playing cards and was drawn by graphic designer Jorma Hinkka. As a venue, the Helsingin Jäähalli served.

From the first team of Töölön Vesa few players were transferred to the new association. Among these were Timo Turunen, who is still best points scorer in club history today. There were Pentti Hiiros and Timo Kyntölä, with whom he formed the so-called nallipyssyketju series until 1975 - this name is due to the rather small body size of the player ( Hiiros was 172 cm, the largest of the three players ) ago.

On June 28, 2013 were officially announced that both the stage ( Hartwall Areena ) and the club to the Russian-Finnish businessman Gennady Nikolayevich Timchenko and the Russo- Finnish Rotenberg family was sold. Along with this is done from the 2014/15 season of change in the Continental Hockey League.
