Jarkko Ruutu

Jarkko Ruutu Samuli ( born August 23, 1975 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player. Since September 2011, he plays for Jokerit in the SM- liiga in the position of right winger. He is the older brother of Tuomo Ruutu and Mikko.

Career

Jarkko Ruutu began his professional hockey career in 1996 at the Helsinki HIFK in the Finnish SM- liiga, after he had gone through the youth teams at the same club and a year had played with the team of Michigan Technological University. He was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in the third round as 68th.

In the season 1999/2000 he celebrated his NHL debut, but spent most of the season at the farm team of the Canucks, the Syracuse Crunch. The following season, he completed just 21 games in the NHL, in which he scored three goals and three assists taxed. From season to season, he was in Vancouver to improve his stats during his time, but he also spent many minutes on the penalty bench. During the 2004/ 05 lockout season Ruutu was playing for his hometown club HIFK and set a new league record for penalty minutes in the main round ( with 215 penalty minutes ), which was later broken by Matt Nickerson. For the 2005/06 season he returned to the Canucks. Jarkko Ruutu is a hand known as the agitator of the team, rooting for the other players and entrains - on the other hand, he is regarded as a tough player what his term statistics shows. Nevertheless, he played in his last season in Vancouver often in the front row and on the powerplay if his physical presence.

In July 2006, Ruutu signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, before joining as a free agent in July 2008 to the Ottawa Senators, with whom he signed a three year contract for 3.9 million U.S. dollars.

In the 2008 / 09 season, Ruutu was suspended for two games without pay by the NHL after he was bitten in the game against the Buffalo Sabres on January 6, 2009 his opponent Andrew Peters. In February 2011, the Ottawa Senators gave him off in exchange for a sixth- round vote in NHL Entry Draft 2011 for the Anaheim Ducks. End of the season 2010/11 Californians not extended his expiring contract, so Ruutu became a free agent. In September 2011 he returned to his home and was engaged by Jokerit.

Internationally

Jarkko Ruutu played in several World Championships for his country, moreover, at the World Cup of Hockey. At the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 he won the silver medal with the Finnish national team. Four years later at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, he won the bronze medal.
