2011 NHL Entry Draft

The NHL Entry Draft 2011 was the 49th talent contraction of the National Hockey League and took place on June 24th and 25th 2011 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul in the U.S. state of Minnesota instead.

The teams of the National Hockey League could while respecting the rights of all North American players born between 1 January 1991 and 15 September 1993 as well as all European players born between 1 January 1990 and 15 September 1993 secure. Available only were players whose rights have not already been held from a draft of the previous years of an NHL team.

Draft order

The draft sequence of positions 1 to 14 were determined on 12 April 2011 by the Draft Lottery. The 14 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs, took part in the lottery and were placed in the reverse order of the table of the regular season. Here, the worst team of the last regular season was on the first place and had a chance of 25 percent to win the lottery and the best of 14 not qualified for the playoffs teams was in 14th place and had a chance of 0.5 percent. The winner of the lottery, the New Jersey Devils, moved up four places from eighth to fourth place in the draft order. The Edmonton Oilers, the worst team in the regular season, retained the first overall draft pick.

The draft sequence of the 16 playoff participants have been announced after the Stanley Cup final. The Stanley Cup winner is set to position 30, the final opponent at position 29. At position 27 and 28 failed in the Conference Finals teams will be sorted. The remaining teams will be placed in the regular season based on their table stand. The rule is that the team is in position 15 with the fewest points obtained. The draft order is valid for all rounds of the Entry Draft. Teams can transfer acquire draft picks from other teams, but also own dispose to other teams.
