1984 NHL Entry Draft

The NHL Entry Draft in 1984, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, took place on 9 June 1984 at the Montreal Forum in Montreal, Canada, in the province of Quebec instead. The draft has been prepared by Canadian Television Stations Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC ) and Radio Canada broadcast live for the first time.

A total of 250 players were taken in twelve rounds. In the first place the Pittsburgh Penguins Mario Lemieux chose from, which the team and the entire league coined in the following years. Among the first ten players were a number of good players. Most, however, surprised the Montreal Canadiens with the election of Petr Svoboda, although many teams were assumed that the Czechoslovak would not be approved for the Draft. Only in the third round chose the Canadiens Patrick Roy and later attracted the Calgary Flames with Brett Hull in the sixth and Gary Suter in the ninth round two players who should make the League a stir. While Suter in his first season the Calder Memorial Trophy won to Hull became one of the most dangerous strikers in the entire league.

Little happy acted the leaders of the Buffalo Sabres, who wanted to pull 186 point Eric Weinrich. As this was still too young, fell the pick. Was even weaker performance of the Philadelphia Flyers, who wanted to bring the Czechoslovaks Petr Rucka at 225th position, although this had already been selected as the 200th of the Calgary Flames.
