Simon Wheeldon

Simon Wheeldon ( born August 30, 1966 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) is a former Canadian- Austrian ice hockey player who was active during his career, including for the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.

Career

Wheeldon began his career in 1983 in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League with the Victoria Cougars. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1984, the leaders of the Edmonton Oilers secured the rights to the offensive player and chose him in the 11th round in a total of 229 position. In the summer of 1986 he moved to the American Hockey League with the New Haven Nighthawks. His first NHL games completed the Canadians in the 1987/88 season, when he came five times for the New York Rangers for use, scoring one assist. This was followed by a further six games the following season. During his time with the Rangers Wheeldon was mainly active for various farm teams in the lower North American Hockey Leagues.

For the season 1990/91 he joined the Winnipeg Jets, which, however, also charges him to the then farm team, the Moncton Hawks. The jersey of the Winnipeg Jets was the then 24 -year-old only six times. After another season with the Baltimore Skipjacks in the AHL, he forced a move to Europe in 1992. There, the management of the then Austrian first division side VEU Feldkirch attention was drawn to Wheeldon and signed him. In the period following the links Sagittarius has established itself in the field Kirchern as top scorer and top performers. He scored in his first season for his new club in 50 completed games 86 points scorer. He also celebrated a number of national and international success with the club. So he could five times the European Hockey League win the Austrian Championship, four times the Championship League and the Alps once.

At the end of the 1998/99 season Wheeldon left the club and signed a contract with the Munich Barons of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. With the Barons of former NHL player won the German championship and in 2001, the German vice-championship in 2000. After the club in the summer of 2002, moved to Hamburg, he returned to Austria. There he went again two seasons for the VEU Feldkirch on the ice, before ending his active career ended Hockey at the age of 38 years in 2004.

Internationally

Wheeldon completed a total of 25 games for de Austrian national team and was able to score 13 times. He participated with the Austrians on the B- World Cup 1997 in Poland, on the A- Cup 2000 in Russia and on the A- 2001 World Championships in Germany. In addition, he represented Austria at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
