1999–2000 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season

The DEL 1999/2000 season was the sixth season of the German Ice Hockey League. The regular season began on September 10, 1999 and ended on 12 March 2000, the play- off round was launched on 17 March 2000. German masters were the Munich Barons, who had taken over the license of the EV Landshut before the season.

The sporty relegated mosquitoes food remained in the league, as a descent of the corporation to the 2nd Bundesliga for legal reasons, was not possible. This was decided by the Court of Arbitration of the German Ice Hockey Federation after a complaint by the mosquitoes. The Star Bulls Rosenheim sold their corporation after the season to the second division Iserlohn Roosters.

Mode and rules

Biggest change over the previous year was the re- introduction of the sporty descent, so the best eight teams in the preliminary round in a play-off round of the German champions playing off, while the other teams taking with their first round points in a single round played against relegation, with the last placed it was clear as a sporting relegated. Moreover, it was not previously attached in the first round in a draw within regular time as in the years an extension, but that match is decided directly in a shootout, so it could get more at the end of the game to no draw.

The preliminary round was played in a double round, so the teams played against each other four times and each team came at the end at 56 games.

In order for the mosquito food stood firm as a sporting relegated. Since the Star Bulls Rosenheim, however withdrew for financial reasons voluntarily out of the league and sold their license to the Iserlohn EC, the Essen -won in court the other belonging to the DEL.

All play-off rounds were played in the mode " Best of Five".

Quarterfinals

The quarter-final was played from 17 March 2000. The best-placed team in the main round, the Kölner Haie, met on the eighth-placed Augsburger Panther, the second-placed Munich Barons on the Seventh Frankfurt Lions, the third party dieKrefeld penguins, on the sixth placed Berlin Capitals and the fourth-placed Kassel Huskies on the defending champion Adler Mannheim, the the main round had finished fifth.

Semifinal

The semi-finals were held on April 1st. The highest ranked team in the first round still remaining met the schlechtplatzierteste while the Zweitbestplatzierte the first round hit the Drittbestplatzierten.

Final

The final series was played from 22 April. The Kölner Haie had the first home right because of their better placement in the main round.

Thus the Munich Barons were for the first time since the foundation of the franchise, mainly due to very safe defender and an outstanding Boris Rousson in goal for the Barons, German champion.
