1956–57 Oberliga (ice hockey) season

The season 1956/57, the ice hockey league was the ninth season of the highest German Hockey League. German champion EV Fussen, who was thus able to win his fifth successive title. Preussen Krefeld was in the relegation match against the Berlin Ice Club, the winner of the promotion round north, to prevail as the last of the Western Group and remained in the league. As representatives of the South rise group of EV Landshut rose to the spiked at six teams Group South.

Mode

Unlike last year, the mode has been amended several times. The preliminary round was played in two groups, the group with five South and the West group with six teams in the form of a single round, so each club each played one home and one away match against the other teams in the own group. Afterwards, the teams qualified in the squares 1 to 3 from the South and No. 1 and 2 from the West for the final round. The Last of the western group had to defend against the winner of the promotion round the north his starting place in the top division in the relegation. In the Southern group, there was due to the increase to six participants at no relegation match, the winner of the South rise group went straight to Oberliga.
