1966–67 ice hockey Bundesliga season

The season 1966/67, the Ice Hockey League was the ninth season of the highest German Hockey League. German champion was the Düsseldorf EC that could win the championship just two years after the rise of the first West German team for 15 years and the ensuing dominance of the Bavarian teams finished for now. In the relegation matches could of only four Bundesliga Preussen Krefeld keep the class in the league of former champions SC Riessersee and the ESV Kaufbeuren and record champions had Berliner SC. They were replaced by the FC Bayern Munich, the SG Oberstdorf / Sonthofen and VfL Bad Nauheim.

Mode

To reduce the high cost of travel to away games, the Bundesliga for the season 1966/67, was divided into two seasons, the first playing off a double round. The five Bavarian clubs were doing assigned to the Southern group, the teams from West and East Germany and Berlin played in the group West. After that, the top three teams in each group qualified for the league final round playing off the German champions in a single round. The fourth and fifth position in their group had in the play-offs, the event has gathered the Südvereine to the top three finishers of the Oberliga Süd, the northern clubs at the top three winners of the Oberliga West. The respective first and second position in their relegation season qualified for the new Bundesliga season.

The two winners of the relegation rounds then played for the DEV Cup.
