1987–88 ice hockey Bundesliga season
The season 1987 /88 Hockey - Bundesliga was the 30th season of the German top flight. German champion was the Cologne EC, the sixth to win his third overall championship title in a row. Three titles in a row had the last EV Füssen to celebrate the championship from 1963 to 1965.
The season was overshadowed by the financial collapse of the ECD Iserlohn, who had to retire from the game after 27 match days, after which all the games from the Sauerland region were not counted. In the Relegation to novice BSC Preussen was claimed as Bundesliga club. In addition, the successor organization of the former Bundesliga Freiburg ERC, the EHC Freiburg returned to the league. For the retired ECD Iserlohn moved in after the relegation from the Bundesliga 2 of the EC Ratingen.

As in previous years, the mode with a double round and subsequent championship play-offs, the best eight teams, while the two last placed athlete had to compete in a relegation round against the best teams in the 2nd Bundesliga, being held.
