1970–71 DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey) season

The East German Ice Hockey Cup 1970/71 brought drastic changes in the game their operational needs. According to the DTSB 1970 decision belonged Hockey henceforth no longer in the group of " particularly promoted" sports. As a consequence, could be played with leistungssportlichem character from 1971 only in the sports clubs of the armed forces hockey, although only the sports club Dynamo made use. Thus, the league was in future be represented only by the two respective teams from Berlin, and white water, the remaining sports club sections had been disbanded. In a tournament series consisting of eight games ultimately the SG Dynamo White Water defended her title from the previous year.

Also affected by the resolution was the group league, after which the maintenance of the sport at amateur level only on a voluntary basis was possible. On the initiative of many hockey enthusiasts a follow - League with four grid positions was still 1971 built from the ground, which should be played on a weekend of the year in the form of a simple round tournament. The chosen name " best determination " resulted from the DTSB conditions, do not use the term " amateur championship " to the granted for the ( residual) Oberliga amateur status - prerequisite for participation in Olympic games - not to subvert.

With participating teams from BSG unit Crimmitschau and motor Optima Erfurt included two teams for participants whose squad virtually identical to those of two former Oberliga was (ASK forward or SC turbine). Ultimately, this also reflected the tournament, in which the other participants from Leuna and Schierke were almost no chance.
