Arto Javanainen

Arto Javanainen ( born April 8, 1959 in Pori, † January 25, 2011 in Turku ) was a Finnish professional ice hockey player who from 1975 to 1994 for Ässät Pori and Turku TPS in the SM- liiga, as well as for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League played.

Career

Arto Javanainen began his career as a hockey player with Ässät Pori, for he 1975-1984 was initially active in the SM- liiga. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the sixth round as the 118th overall player of the Montreal Canadiens. A year later, the Finn was drafted a second time, this time he was elected the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Entry Draft in 1984 in the fifth round as the 85th overall player out. In the 1984/85 season, the attacker eventually made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League for the Penguins, but where he could not prevail, so that it mainly for their farm team that played Baltimore Skipjacks of the American Hockey League. At the end of his one-year stay in North America stood for Javanainen five points scorer, including a goal in 14 NHL games to book.

Prior to the 1984/85 season Javanainen returned to his former club Ässät Pori, for which he was the following two seasons running. It was followed by two years at TPS Turku, with whom he won his only 1989 Finnish Champion title. Then Javanainen returned again to Ässät Pori, where in 1994 he ended his career.

Internationally
