Spokane Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs are an ice hockey team from Spokane, Washington State, which plays in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League since 1985. The team carries out their home games at the 10,759 -seat Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

In the seasons 1990/91 and 2007/ 08 the team won the President's Cup, the championship of the WHL. They also won the Memorial Cup, the most coveted trophy in the Canadian Junior Hockey in 1991 and 2008.

History

The franchise was founded in 1982 in Kelowna under the name of Kelowna Wings. The Kelowna Wings also played in the WHL. In 1985, the franchise was transferred to Spokane and was named Spokane Chiefs. In addition to the Portland Winter Hawks, the Spokane Chiefs, the only American team that could win the Memorial Cup are (as of July 2009). Moreover, they won four championships in the Western Conference. The Chiefs are also the only team in the history of the Western Hockey League, which could turn a 0-3 down in a best - of-seven play -off series (July 2009).
