Wade Flaherty

Wade Flaherty ( born January 11, 1968 in Terrace, British Columbia) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and current coach. In the National Hockey League, he worked for the San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators active.

Career

Flaherty played the next five years from 1984 to 1989 for various teams in the Western Hockey League, primarily with the Victoria Cougars. After a good 1987/88 season, which earned him a nomination for the West Second All-Star team of the WHL, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the ninth round at 181 instead of the Buffalo Sabres.

For the 1989/90 season, the Canadian became a professional and stood at the Greensboro Monarchs in the East Coast Hockey League in goal, which he led to win the Riley Cup at the end of the season and was even voted the most valuable player of the playoffs. The following season Flaherty played in the International Hockey League with the Kansas City Blades that the farm team of the newly established San Jose Sharks were from the 1991/92 season and took the goalkeeper under contract. Between 1991 and 1997, Flaherty always came back to operations in the National Hockey League, but his greatest success was winning the Turner Cup and the James Norris Memorial Trophy IHL. After the end of his contract with the Sharks after the season 1996/97 he became a free agent to the New York Islanders, where he, however, did not come until the summer of 2001 as a second-or third-choice goalkeeper beyond existence. There were other changes to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, with their farm team, he won the Calder Cup in the 2003/04 season. Flaherty also received the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy. After his contract expired in organizing the Predators, he moved to the organization of the Vancouver Canucks, but there came exclusively with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL for use. In the season 2007/ 08 Flaherty stood in the Rockford IceHogs, the farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks, under contract.

After his one-year contract had expired in Rockford, Flaherty took before the start of season 2008/09, an offer of his former employer, the San Jose Sharks on. These committed Flaherty as goalkeeper for their farm team, the China Sharks of the Asia League Ice Hockey, where Selbiger worked as a goalkeeping coach at the same time. In January 2009, Flaherty took an offer from the Chicago Blackhawks, who committed him as goalkeeping coach. On 15 July 2011 he was hired by the Winnipeg Jets as a goalkeeper coach.
