Manitoba Moose

The Manitoba Moose were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which belonged to the American Hockey League and acted as a farm team of the Vancouver Canucks. The home of the Moose was the MTS Centre.

History

1996 moved the team from St. Paul, Minnesota on to Winnipeg to take advantage of the vacant Winnipeg Arena. First, the Manitoba Moose were a member of the IHL, where they recorded under their head coach Randy Carlyle, a former Winnipeg Jets player, a modest success in the season and the playoffs.

When the IHL disbanded, joined the "Moose " the American Hockey League ( AHL ) and became the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks. In addition, their new coach of former Canucks player Stan Smyl. Later he was replaced Randy Carlyle but off again. In November 2004, the team got a new face: First, the current logo was designed, on the other hand, the 15,015 -seat MTS Centre was completed.

During the NHL lockout in the 2004/2005 season, some NHL players played in the AHL and the teams were at the center of the hockey events in North America. For this reason, and because the Manitoba Moose had played both a good regular season, as confident in the play-offs, the team achieved very high audience numbers. In the season were 8,626 fans in attendance per game average, in the play- offs even 9,568. Thus, Winnipeg had regained a popular ice hockey team after the laying of the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix. The MTS Centre was also the venue for the AHL All- Star Classic and recorded an All- Star Game attendance record with 15,015.
