2001–02 AHL season

The 2001/02 season was the 66th regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). The 27 teams completed in the regular season of 80 matches. The AHL played the penultimate time with 6 divisions. Best team in the regular season were the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, while the Chicago Wolves won in the playoffs their first Calder Cup. Compared to the previous season the number of teams increased to seven, which was mainly due to the dissolution of the International Hockey League and the acquisition of certain IHL franchises.
