1940–41 AHL season
The season 1940/41, was the fifth regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, nine teams played 56 consecutive games. The top six teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Syracuse Stars were to Buffalo, New York, relocated and played from now on under the name Buffalo Bisons

Calder Cup Playoffs
Mode
For the play-offs, the six best teams in the American Hockey League qualified. The two winners of the duels of the teams ranked two to four came together in the second round, while the winner of the duel between the two division winners qualified automatically by a bye to the final. The first two play-off rounds took place in the best-of -three mode, with the two division winners in the best- of-five mode played for the finals. The final itself was also played in the best- of-five mode.
