2001–02 ECHL season
The 2001/02 season was the 14th regular season of the East Coast Hockey League ( ECHL ). The 29 teams completed in the regular season per 72 encounters. The point of best team in the regular season were the Louisiana IceGators, while the Greenville Grrrowl won in the play-offs, their first Kelly Cup ever.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Columbus Chill were reactivated and to Reading, Pennsylvania, resettled, where they were now on active under the name Reading Royals.
- The Hampton Roads Admirals were reactivated and to Columbus, Georgia, resettled, where they were now on active under the name of Columbus Cottonmouths.
- The Miami Matadors were reactivated and to Cincinnati, Ohio, resettled, where they were active under the name Cincinnati Cyclones henceforth.
- The Birmingham Bulls were to Atlantic City, New Jersey, and from then on were resettled active than Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.
- The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks were to Macon, Georgia, relocated and from then on were active as Macon Whoopee.
- The Columbia Inferno were added as an expansion team in the league.
