Toledo Walleye

The Toledo Walleye are an American Hockey franchise from Toledo, Ohio. It plays since 2009 in the ECHL after the previous team Toledo Storm has been inactive since 2007. The home games are played at the Huntington Center. As a cooperation partner of the Walleye the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League, as well as the Grand Rapids Griffins and Rockford IceHogs act of the American Hockey League.

History

The franchise was founded in 1991 under the name Toledo Storm. Under this title they won in 1993 and 1994 respectively to the Riley Cup. After the 2006/07 season, the franchise was dissolved and the former home of the Toledo Sports Arena demolished. After two seasons break the venue was on the 2009/10 season back under the new name Toledo Walleye again. Walleye is the English name for the American perch, which nearby in Toledo Lake Erie is located. Opened in 2009, Huntington Center includes 8,000 seats nearly 3,000 spectators more than the old arena.
