Wheeling Nailers
The Wheeling Nailers are an American ice hockey franchise that plays in the ECHL. The team is based in Wheeling, West Virginia and serves as a farm team of the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins team, as the second farm team of the NHL clubs Pittsburgh Penguins and, since the 2010/11 season the Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs. The home of the Nailers WesBanco Arena is the (formerly Wheeling Civic Center ), which has a capacity of 5,406 spectators.

History
The team under the name " Wheeling Thunderbirds " was founded after the laying of the Winston -Salem Thunderbirds 1992 to Wheeling. The current name was given to the team in 1996. In the 1997/98 season, the Nailers came up in the third round of the playoffs before and documents in six games to the eventual champions Hampton Roads Admirals. After the team had five seasons consecutively missed the playoffs, its been the best points Regular Season played the Nailers 2003/ 04 with 106 points. Ultimately, they eliminated in the first round against the Reading Royals in five games with 3-2 from. The Nailers won three times now the Henry Brabham Cup as point- best team in the regular season, most recently in 1994/95 as " Wheeling Thunderbirds ".

Several players of Wheeling Nailers and Thunderbirds also played in the NHL. The team from Wheeling for some were the " stepping stone" to higher leagues, for others, such as Alain Lemieux a team for the career-ending.
