Dany Sabourin

Dany Sabourin ( born September 2, 1980 in Val- d'Or, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who is under contract since the summer of 2013 in the Graz 99ers of the Austrian Hockey League ( EBEL ).

Career

Dany Sabourin began his career in 1997 at the Faucons de Sherbrooke in the Canadian Junior Football League LHJMQ. After his first season, he was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round at position 108 in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998. But Sabourin stayed two more years at the Castors de Sherbrooke, the successor team of Faucons, but came in the 1998/99 season also to use one for the Saint John Flames, the farm team of Calgary, in the Playoffs of the American Hockey League.

2000 finally changed Sabourin to the pros and completed the next two years mainly with the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League. For the 2002/03 season he was back in the squad of Saint John Flames and a year later he came to his first four missions in the NHL for the Calgary Flames, but has continued to play for the farm team in the ECHL and the AHL.

While the NHL season 2004/ 05 failed because of the lockout, Sabourin played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL and the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, both farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He showed both teams performed very well, which is why the Pittsburgh Penguins finally took him in the summer of 2005 under contract. However, Sabourin could not prevail in the NHL squad and was instead goalkeeper of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL. In this position, he led the team with 49 missions to 30 wins and at the end of the season he was awarded the Aldege " Baz " Bastien Award as the best goalkeeper in the league as well as the Harry " Hap " Holmes Memorial Award for the fewest goals.

However, the Pittsburgh Penguins did not find any use for him and put him shortly before the start of the 2006/07 season on the waiver list, from where he undertook the Vancouver Canucks. Sabourin took the post of a Substitute goalkeeper behind Roberto Luongo and allowed nine times during the season on the ice. However, his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2007, he went back to Pittsburgh.

In Pittsburgh to Sabourin was finally able to recommend but for the NHL squad and was the number two behind goalkeeper Marc -Andre Fleury. Sabourin was able to convince good performances in December 2007 and took the post as a goalkeeper, as Fleury turned out due to injury for a long time.

In January 2009, Sabourin was replaced by Mathieu Garon from the Oilers and then immediately placed on the waiver list, since no third-choice goalkeeper behind Dwayne Roloson was needed more and Jeff Drouin - Deslauriers. Since the 2013/14 season Sabourin stands at the Graz 99ers in Austria under contract, where he replaced Frederic Cloutier as the first goalkeeper.
