Johnstown Chiefs

The Johnstown Chiefs were an American ice hockey team from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, who from 1988 to 2010 in the ECHL, a North American minor league, played.

History

Originally wanted the team owner to the tradition of the Johnstown Jets tie that were from 1950 to 1977 in various leagues, but the owner of the rights to the Jets were not willing to cede this. For this reason, the team owners held a vote among his own fans, which the name John Chiefs selected in accordance with the fictional team of the Charlestown Chiefs from the movie " Slap Shot ", which was filmed in Johnstown. First, the Johnstown Chiefs played in its debut season in the All-American Hockey League, but already switched to the next season in the East Coast Hockey League, in which they were one of five founding members.

During her time in the ECHL, the Johnstown Chiefs developed to a fixed size and were finally the team that was active the longest in the same city and under the same name, before following the 2009/10 season to Greenville, South Carolina were relocated and renamed the Greenville Road Warriors.
