Lake Erie Monsters

The Lake Erie Monsters are an ice hockey team from the North American American Hockey League ( AHL ) and located in Cleveland, Ohio. The franchise is located there since the summer of 2007 and played until 2005 under the name Utah Grizzlies in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The team acts as a farm team of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League.

History

The franchise was founded in 1994 as the Denver Grizzlies and played in the International Hockey League ( IHL ). After only one year, the team moved to Salt Lake City and played under the name Utah Grizzlies. After the IHL was disbanded in the summer of 2001, joined the franchise in the AHL. In 2005, the team a game operation.

2006 bought Dan Gilbert, the owner of the NBA team the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team and moved it to Cleveland, Ohio. The team was named after the sea monster Bessie, that is to live in Lake Erie for a story. In December 2006, the monster agreed with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League on cooperation; The team has since then acted as a so -called farm team of the NHL clubs. On 7 May 2007 Joe Sacco was presented as the first Cheftreainer the monster. Their first league game denied the Lake Erie Monsters on October 6, 2007 against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

After two seasons Sacco was appointed head coach of the Avalanche, the post of coach of the Monsters took over David Quinn. In November 2010, the Monsters and the Colorado Avalanche agreed on a multi-year extension of their commitment. Under Quinn, the Lake Erie Monsters qualified in the AHL 2010/11 season for the first time in its history for the play- offs. There, they lost in the first round of the Manitoba Moose.

In summer 2012, David Quinn was appointed to Colorado assistant coach Joe Sacco, whereupon Dean Chynoweth was introduced as the new head coach of the Monsters.
